MAMA:  Staten Island Chem

PAPA: Gary Payton

Staten Island Chem × Gary Payton is a keeper in every sense of the word—full gas, full flavor, full resin, and zero fluff. The plants stack like beasts, the terps punch through sealed jars, and the smoke is so smooth it almost catches you off guard. But don’t let it. This is serious weed, the kind that coats your throat in diesel and leaves your joints dripping with resin halfway through.

At the heart of this cross is Staten Island Chem, a one-of-a-kind relic from the early ’90s. The story’s already legend: a debt collection turned grow raid, a few busted bones, and a forgotten set of mother plants passed off to a family friend. When Stoney turned 18, he was handed the cut—no one else wanted to take credit for it, so it became his. When Phylos later ran it through genetic analysis, it came back as closely related to the original Chems, and possibly a predecessor. Whether or not it’s “Momma Chem,” what’s never been in question is how it reeks—straight-up raw gas, roadkill rubber, and burning solvent, the kind of stench that overwhelms filters and clears rooms.

Crossing that with Gary Payton brings a modern layer to the equation. Cookies genetics aside, Gary’s known for its dense structure, frost, and syrupy-sweet funk, with a balanced hybrid high that hits hard without dragging you under. The real surprise is how well it plays with the Chem. You get that gassy chemical blast up front, backed by sweet funk, earthy backend, and resin you can feel through gloves. Flower is greasy, stanky, and solid, with multiple standout phenos, but the loudest ones lean Chem on the nose and Payton in the build—shorter, bulkier, and better behaved than a lot of older cuts. @dub dub hunted the mother pheno used to make these greasy S1’s!

The high is strong and full-bodied, with a warm, euphoric lift that settles into deep satisfaction. It doesn’t hit like a pure indica or a racy sativa—it just feels good, and keeps feeling good long after the exhale. Smooth inhale, no bite, and a flavor that lingers on your tongue for hours. It’s a well-balanced fusion of old-school gas and new-school refinement—the kind of cross that earns its spot in rotation and doesn’t give it up easily.
