Blue Grapefruit 47 Overview
The Blue Grapefruit 47, is a blend of Blue Rhino, Kali Thai, Deep Chunk, Peak 19, and AK47.
This was formerly known as ‘Blue Thai,’ but after testing this one out myself and experiencing the serious grapefruit terpenes, I have re-branded it more accordingly. Since I first sampled my Riffraff Thai, I have wanted to cross it with my BR1947 (Blue Rhino 1947). A Godzilla x Godzilla of smack-you-in-the-face resin properties here, and her intense potency needs to be taken into consideration. This hybrid doesn’t seem to possess the medicinal properties of the BR1947 to me, and doesn’t have that nerve damage spasm calming effect. However, she has a hell of an effect and I would def consider her to be medicinal to your bod, mood and tood.
This hybrid is an example of one of the cool results that can occur when you are crossing with heirloom sativa or sativa dominant strains/genotypes in the mix. I call it the “Chunky Recombination” style. Normally, in an F1 hybrid with fairly stable parents (P1s), the offspring will be pretty uniform. I call that the “Blended Recombination” style. The Blue Grapefruit 47 F1 is most definitely a Chunky Recombination style. The offspring have a range of phenotypes regarding morphology. Most yield pretty average but with incredibly exotic looking big and dense resin-soaked buds.
Now, this is a downside for some growers, but for others, growers like me, this hybrid is a clone hunter’s treasure chest indeed. All the F1s are heavy duty with regards to resin production. Now, the terpenes (smells and flavors) female to female can vary regarding intensity, 25% of my females expressed powerful grape terpenes in early flowering. About 25% of the females yield damn nicely, and the other 75% are more average yielding. All have solid rock-hard buds. They don’t smell strongly while growing, which some will like. After she’s dried some of the females stink hard, others less so, but even the weaker terpene plants still smell and taste pretty hashy, just less grapefruit.
There are some runts in the littler (1:7)—now speaking for myself, I am a sucker for runts LoL ? Some of the most epic plants/clones I have ever smoked were runts. Therefore, I have a special place in my heart for them. These Blue Grapefruit 47 runt phenos are incredible resin factories and extra heavy hitters, yikes! A must have for the small personal garden connoisseur—that’s my .02 anyways. My saved runt was insanely potent but not uber tasty or smelly—like a stealth plant and mostly tasted of hash.
Even in my smaller sample batches (about 16 plants) I saw phenotypes I would have grabbed up and cloned for outdoor, indoor larger, and indoor smaller, including indoor tiny (the runts). If you’re on the hunt for a face splattering and pretty tasty clone for breeding or cropping, and you have specific needs, this is a prime hunny right here baybee.
Lineage
Male Breeder(s) Deets: 1 superior male of Blue Rhino 1947 (BR1947) was the paternal P1 in this cross. This was a male BR1947 I had saved from an earlier BR1947 inbreeding run. He was my favorite BR1947 phenotype in male form. BR1947 is circa 2000 Blue Rhino from Irish Rose seeds, and a Peak19/AK47 F1 hybrid I acquired at C-Bay around 2000 as well.
Female Breeder(s) Deets: 2 Riffraff Thai females were the maternal P1s in this cross. The Riffraff Thai is a 2-way F1 hybrid composed of Deep Chunk x Kali Thai (circa 2000)
La Smoking Insights
Wow! Dick in the dirt, wheelchair weeds, face planter, drooling on your shoes… Whatever you want to call it, it will be like that, LoL—the Blue Grapefruit 47 has some unique qualities indeed. The first very impressive impact from this variety is the “numb face” and this legit happens to me almost right away every time I smoke this beauty.
She isn’t sleepy-time weeds because she gets your brain rolling pretty good. But make no mistake, you are stupid, heh heh. In very small doses she is actually very clear but that ends fast once you up the intake. For creating art, or listening to music, video games etc. she is the bomb (I’m from the 80’s get over it LoL). I stay pretty social under her influence, and she pretty much is the type of weeds in public that makes everything really extra funny—wink—you know what I mean. After she cures up for about 30 days sealed, she will become decently more expanding in your lungs. Smaller hits to start with well cured versions of this bud.
From the Thai side comes the “freight train” effects. The Blue Grapefruit 47 has long legs (length of effects) and a rolling come-on that builds over about 10 minutes after partaking. It’s like a freight train because it is a little slow on the buildup but once it gets there it is hard core solid full speed with the physical (face effects) and the mental party-time or create a work of art effect. Really a super fun ride. I wouldn’t operate any potentially dangerous machinery under her influence as she is quite distracting LoL. I found the super stinky and super tasty (grapefruit and hashish) females to be about 3:7 in occurrence.
Growing Instructions
The Blue Grapefruit 47 is very easy to grow and her calyx to leaf ratio makes her easy to trim as well. Keep lights from getting too close to buds and keep bud tops below 86 deg. F. and you will have some wicked potent-ass buds, yowza!
Don’t overwater her. She is actually a pretty hungry-hungry hippo, so to speak. If you would normally use say 2 spikes (True Living Organics the Druid’s Edition book) I would use 3 spikes in her containers. In other words, most of the females (90%) needed about 15% more dry nutrients to make it through to harvest during flowering. Her buds are large and dense.
Personally, I would flower any healthy runts as long as yields aren’t a major concern. This line has some seriously potent runts—not a lot of them but here and there. I got 1:15 so it’s a small sample.
Please do not sprout these on a 24/0 photoperiod and KOS recommends 16/8 for sprouting and until 30 days old. Then switch to 18/6. Alternately…
Using a flowering photoperiod of 12/12 on sprouts for their first 10 days above ground, then switching them to an 18/6 photoperiod will allow you to easily sex them at 30 days of age—give or take 3 days.
Always allow plants to get at least 55 days old from sprouting, before starting to flower for maximum resin production. Plants grown from seed work much better outdoors in the ground than clones do. Alternately, clones work much better in containers than plants from seeds do. Sprout seeds in ambient temps of 75 – 85 deg. F. Obviously KOS always recommends organically growing our gear in living soil for the full appreciation of smells and flavors, among many other reasons—cheers!
